As it’s Monday, what better day to celebrate National Smile Month?
National Smile Month is an oral health initiative – the UK’s longest-running campaign to promote good oral health. Sometimes, messages about our dental health can be lost amid a tide of warnings about obesity and not getting enough exercise, but for children, it’s really important to get to grips with good oral hygiene from a very early age.
The three main points that the campaign wants to hammer home are:
- Brush your teeth last thing at night and on at least one other occasion with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
- Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.

If you’re looking for ideas for ways to get your children into good dental habits, there is a lovely selection of educational products on the Educating Smiles website, including books, DVDs and props to help encourage your little ones to look after their mouths.
Our Learn Play Grow character, Bella the Bunny, also likes to make sure that our children learn how to brush their teeth properly, so she’ll be talking about that over the course of the month (May 15th – June 15th) and making sure everyone knows just how important it is to look after your teeth!
